Information about the book
This book is about the story of two sisters, Elisabeth and Alexandra, who were born in the middle of the nineteenth century. They were princesses of the German house of the Grand Ducat of Essen and Rhein and grand daughters of mighty queen Victoria of Great Britain. Following their weddings, they both joined the Romanov dynasty; Elisabeth was married with the Grand Duke of Russia, Sergios and Alexandra was married with the last Tsar of Russia, Nikolaos II.
They both converted to the Orthodox faith and defended their faith with great zealousness and decisiveness. Their lives were parallel; their faith to God was unique and unshakeable, while they suffered a tragic end.
Grand duchess Elizabeth withdrew from the world and took the monastic vows after her husband assassination in 1905. She started a remarkable charitable and nursing work through the Sisterhood of Love and Mercy of Saints Mary and Martha, while she founded the Convent of Saints Mary and Martha in Moscow. Tsarina Alexandra on the other hand was an exemplary wife and mother. The fact that her only child, Alexios, who was also the successor of the Romanova's throne was haemophiliac, made her turn to God even more, desperately seeking for His help. At that time, Rasputin comes up, who is the only one that can heal the sick tsarevits.
They both loved Russia as if it was their own country and the Russian people requited their love. But the Russian Revolution in 1917 made them victims of the non-religious Bolshevik state. They had a leading part in the last act of the Romanova's Dynasty drama and became the heros of an unforgettable tragedy.
They were two sister's, whose destiny was so unbreakable attached to each other, so that they both had the same tragic end, almost the same day, in the same country and region by assassins having the same ideology. The touching story of the two sisters, who lived moments of great glory but also of despicable humiliations, ends with their beastly assassination in the Siberian forests.
The Russian people, though, did not forget them and continued honoring their memory. The Orthodox church sainted them and they are currently worshiped by millions of Christians throughout the world.
